Why Green Building?
According to recent studies by the Environmental Protection Agency, commercial buildings can be a drain on resources. Collectively, commercial buildings use nearly 40 percent of the total energy in the United States and they also consume about 68 percent of the electricity. In addition, commercial buildings account for about 12 percent of the total water consumption and emit 38 percent of the carbon-dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Green building is a way to reduce a building’s carbon footprint with a more responsible form of building and sustainability.
Engelsma’s Dedication to Green Building
Engelsma Construction is committed to being good stewards of the resources available to us and using them responsibly for ourselves, our children and future generations. We continuously look for ways to “Build Green” and are dedicated to finding the most efficient methods to build our projects in such a way that they have the least possible impact on the surrounding environment.
Engelsma Construction is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Our involvement with USGBC is a testament of our commitment to work toward green building in concert with the needs of the market. Engelsma continues to “go green” through the education of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System by enrolling our Project Managers into the LEED Professional Accreditation program. We currently have LEED AP on staff to assist our clients with their aspirations to incorporate green building into their projects.
